January 2008

Dearly Beloved in Christ,

Greetings to you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We have entered the New Year in our lives and in the history of the world. All of us have celebrated Christmas and the Advent of the New Year. Christmas is God’s reminder that we are not alone. His name is Immanuel, God with us. Praise God, we could celebrate another Christmas season. It was beautiful. Thanks to all who had sacrificed their time and energy for making it such a success.

When David Livingston returned to his native Scotland, after sixteen difficult years as a missionary and explorer in Africa, his body was emaciated by the ravages of some twenty seven fevers that had coursed through his veins during the years of his service. His left arm hung useless at his side, the result of his being mangled by a lion. Speaking to a group of students he said “Shall I tell you what sustained me during the hardship and loneliness of my exile? It was Christ’s promise, ‘Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”(Matt.28:20) Many a time we make the mistake of thinking that Christ’s help is needed only for sick rooms or at times of overwhelming sorrow and suffering.  This is not true. Certainly God is with us in times of distress and that is a comforting truth. Jesus wants to be part of every experience and every moment of our lives.

Let us start the New Year with new decisions.  Let people see Christ living in us. Paul says “Love must be completely sincere. Hate what is evil, hold on to what is good. Love one another warmly as Christian brothers, and be eager to show respect for one another.(Rom:12:9,10) Be alert, stand firm in the faith, be brave, be strong. Do all your work in love. (I Cor :16:13)

Let us always be happy with the Lord.

Wishing you all a very happy, prosperous and blessed New Year.

Yours in Christ’s love

Babu Achen
